BFTP 1 – The Final Page

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

And here it is… the final page from this sketchbook. I love the drawing of the trees in the wind – very Dan Price-ish. The stories about the rodeo queens are also absolutely true.

BFTP 1 – Gone Fishing

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

A sketch of a photo from a stock art magazine. I love the hatching and the way the rope shines through the transparency of the fish’s tail.

BFTP 1 – The Ranch

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

I had changed jobs by this time (my previous employers sold the printing side of their business to their son, whom I went to work for) and I cheered up a little. I do remember being a little perplexed by the impatience of some of the customers. Everything was always rushed, and getting out to the country to just sit and watch a rabbit hop around was a soothing balm.

I like the colors and the line work on the flower and branch.

BFTP 1 – Perfect Day

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

This is perhaps my all time favorite drawing from my sketch books. It is done entirely from memory. I remember it being a perfect day and I also remember watching the swallows swoop over and around us the whole time.

If you have never taken the time to just sit and watch swallows fly, I would highly recommend it. Most people think they are dirty birds, but they are aerialists extraordinaire.

By the way, today is my favorite uncle Jerry’s birthday. It was also my dad’s birthday. Happy birthday to two of my favorite guys!

BFTP 1 – Geese

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

I swear, that really did happen. The geese drive better than most people in my town. At least the birds understand right of way and the correct application of the four-way stop.

BFTP 1 – The Dream to End All Dreams

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

Not one of my favorite drawings, but it is one of my all time favorite dreams.

Wow!

BFTP 1 – Green Eyes

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

Drawing of a guy in an ad on the back of the phone book I had at work. I remember his eyes being unbelievably green and beautiful.

Part of the allure or desire to draw, I think, is the urge to capture something beautiful.

BFTP 1 – Meds

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

Starting to add in some watercolor now. This was influenced by my discovery of Danny Gregory via Dan Price and the Moonlight Chronicles.

I can see both guy’s influence when I look at this drawing. I loosened up a lot and didn’t really care if I had proportions and angles and shapes right. I was just having fun drawing. And that’s what drawing should be, fun.

BFTP 1 – Jill Scott

From the Blast From the Past Sketchbook 1.

Not that great a drawing. I like the headphones ok, but mainly I posted it because I was obsessing on Jill Scott’s first album at that time and it’s a great excuse for me to post some of Jill’s videos.

Great music, great lyrics. They don’t make ’em like this anymore.

God, I sound like a old fogey, don’t I?
